Inflatable Air Beds As Mattress Alternatives
Many of us are accustomed to retreating to our mattresses the minute we begin to shed signs of sleepiness. Unfortunately, not all people can afford outfitting their bedroom with a traditional mattress. Although many alternatives do exist for those who are unable to afford a mattress, we recommend looking into an inflatable air bed. Inflatable air beds offer numerous advantages over traditional mattresses and can be had for a fraction of the cost.
Inflatable air beds, as their name suggests, are simply beds that have their interior lined with air (as opposed to springs). The air acts as a cushion between your body and a hard underlying surface. Most air beds are made of vinyl: a durable, flexible, and stainless material. Since vinyl isn’t the most ideal material to be rubbing against, many air bed manufacturers append a layer of suede to the top of their beds. This suede works to enhance the comfort level of the bed.
Since we are now familiar with what inflatable air beds have to offer (in comparison to traditional mattresses), it is time we address the question of whether they are a fit alternative. In short, air beds are a very suitable alternative to standard mattresses – given that consumers purchase one which is of a high caliber. Although purchasing a higher quality air bed will require more of an initial investment, you will find that it will pay for itself in the long-run.
A concern which seems to be universally shared by those looking to replace, or downright avoid purchasing a standard mattress, is that of air bed height. Despite widespread belief, inflatable air beds do come in heights comparable to standard mattresses. These air beds are referred to as “double height” air beds and can be purchased for a little more than your standard, 1ft. tall air bed. Double height air beds are designed to emulate both a typical, two mattress bed configuration.
If you’re considering
purchasing a mattress in the future, and aren’t set on the idea of spending at least $100 on a quality
inflatable air bed, it might be a good idea to purchase your mattress outright. Don’t worry, we have some
tricks up our sleeves that are sure to help you save money. First, let’s tackle the issue of bed frames.
Although bed frames do add a touch elegance to a bed, they’re anything but necessary. Deciding to hold
off on the purchase of a bed frame can help you save several hundred dollars.
Alternatively, you can decide to postpone your purchase of a box-spring mattress (the hard mattress which acts as a base for your actual mattress) and thus save yourself a few hundred dollars. What may make this second option more lucrative is that it gives you a reason to purchase a bed frame. Mattresses that aren’t set atop a box-spring mattress require a platform bed frame for support. These types of frames are much cheaper than those which require two mattresses, and can add a nice touch of flare to your bed. Both of the above routes are appropriate and recommended for those who don’t want to invest in a quality air bed.
You should now be able to determine whether an inflatable air bed would act as a fit alternative for a traditional mattress in your home. Shall you decide explore the conveniences of an inflatable air bed, we encourage you to invest your money into a quality one. This will ensure that you will get the most out of your experience.
